Prioritizing Projects

In my last newsletter, I pondered my next project. Several subscribers offered suggestions (thank you!) Ultimately, I chose to work on Amelia Earhart. The doll body was already done, and as I had been seriously procrastinating about this doll since making Anne of Green Gables and Annie Oakley almost a year ago, I felt it was time.

So now I'm facing the daunting challenge of creating convincing costuming, hoping her identity will be obvious.
Constructing her outfit in a layered manner, the first article of clothing is her shirt, followed by jodhpurs.
When designing clothing, I use the paper towel method. Paper toweling can be hand or machine sewn. Next, I use muslin (a fabric I have in abundance), tweaking as needed before cutting into the final fabric.
She will be wearing tall boots, so bulk has been reduced from the bottom of her jodhpurs. She'll be wearing a flight jacket or coat, so for the same reason I'll probably not give her shirt sleeves.
She'll also have a custom stand from which she can be removed. I haven't yet though about how I'll paint this to complement the overall look.
She'll have curly hair, partially hidden by a flight cap with goggles. Another challenge!
I have the next couple days off, so hope I'll be able to make some progress.

Hello Reader, I finished a doll yesterday, and it felt good. When I started her I thought she'd be a good one to take to Virginia for this summer's ODACA Day.
